Estriol seems to be the safest of all the estrogens.  It is a weaker form of estrogen and has to be used in doses higher than other forms, but by itself or in combination with the other human estrogens offers many advantages over the other forms. Estriol has been reported to be effective against osteoporosis. Estriol does not cause the harmful building-up of the lining of the uterus. Estriol has not been shown not to cause breast cancer, and several studies even point to the possibility that it may even prevent breast cancer and be effective in treatment of breast cancer. Estriol alone has been shown to be an effective treatment of post-menopausal physical symptoms, such as hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness. Many physicians use estriol alone or combine it with estradiol in a ratio of estriol 80% and estradiol 20%. This combination is commonly known as Bi-Estrogen, and with the addition of the third human estrogen, estrone, is known as Tri-Estrogen.
